Bisi Osundekolead trainer and founderMy name is Adebisi Osundeko (fondly called Bisi) I’m a loving mother and wife and the founder of multi-award-winning Joy and Joe baby slings.
I am a babywearing consultant (trained with the school of babywearing CIC and Slingababy) I was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa where my grandmum, mum, and aunties passed on our babywearing tradition directly to me and my siblings as with our indigenous African culture. I moved to the UK when I was about 24 years old for my master's degree. I currently live in St Helens where I also run our local community convenience shop alongside my dear husband. I have spoken at a number of notable babywearing events and conferences on subjects ranging from skin-to-skin care to traditional babywearing. Prior to moving to the UK, I worked as a Biology teacher in one of our village secondary schools and I also volunteered as a counsellor for a UNICEF-funded initiative set up to raise awareness about HIV/AIDs prevention. I started Joy and Joe baby slings about 12 years ago when I observed that the midwives in the neonatal intensive care ward where my daughter Joy was cared for while she was poorly as a new-born had little understanding of babywearing and I spent hours trying to describe how we carry our babies in Africa. I didn’t encounter prams until I came to the UK so our African way of carrying was all I knew. So this training program via the new center for Traditional African Carrying is a huge milestone for me and I’ve been working on this initiative for many years. I have had countless requests for this training, so this is so long overdue. In this training, I will delve deeper into the subjects that you’ve never encountered before in any training anywhere else. Looking forward to engaging with you on this unique course. It will hopefully be an enjoyable experience for my attendees. |
